Abby Downs Racing and Pre-Training Scone, NSW
Facilities

Scone Racecourse
Just minutes from the property, Scone Race Club is regarded as Racing NSW’s premier country track. Built in 1994, the course features beautifully cambered bends, a spacious layout, and a high-quality racing surface—placing it on par with the best in the country.
Each May, the Scone Cup Carnival draws attention from across the state, with Friday’s Scone Cup followed by a stand-alone metropolitan-class meeting on Saturday—an event not to be missed.
Ongoing plans are set to further elevate Scone’s standing as a leading training destination, with all-weather training surfaces and expanded stabling facilities on the horizon.
Home Sand Track
Carefully designed and maintained by Jeremy, our private training track is a key feature of the property. The irrigated 700m round sand track includes a 600m uphill chute rising 14 metres—forming a figure-9 layout that encourages both balance and intensity.
Horses work in both directions on alternating days to promote even muscle development and improve balance on both leads. The gradual incline allows for safer, high-effort work with less strain on joints and limbs.
High-Speed Treadmill
Jeremy has been incorporating treadmill work into his training programs for over 25 years. Far from being a shortcut, it’s a purposeful tool in our approach—ideal for horses who may become overly stimulated during conventional work, or for those needing low-impact, high-effort conditioning.
Particularly effective for distance runners and horses in recovery, the treadmill allows for focused fitness sessions while helping preserve soundness and prolong careers.
Stables & Yards
With a variety of stabling options tailored to individual needs, horse comfort and wellbeing are at the forefront. Our facilities include:
-
Open, covered sand yards
-
Barn-style boxes
-
Large rubber-lined stables
Ventilation, safety, and hygiene are prioritised. All boxes are bedded with quality shavings and, where possible, are serviced with filtered rainwater.
We currently offer 20 stables and yards, with expansion plans in progress.
Day and Spelling Paddocks
One of the true advantages of a boutique training property is the ability to offer horses regular time out in large day paddocks.
Allowing them to graze, relax, and reset in the sun promotes physical recovery and mental wellbeing—often extending a horse’s campaign beyond what might otherwise be achievable in a traditional stable environment.
Horse Walker
A staple in most modern setups, the walker plays an important role in our daily routine. Horses typically use the walker post-work for a gentle cool down, and again most afternoons while in training.
For those that require a little extra, an afternoon treadmill walk offers a great variation and opportunity to stretch out.
